Avanti Architects has been engaged by University of Leeds to prepare Listed Building Management Guidelines for nine listed post war university building designed by Chamberlin Powell & Bon and built to an overall masterplan developed in the 1960’s. Although the masterplan was not realised in its entirety, the buildings which were constructed function as a set piece within the university precinct.
The Chamberlin Powell & Bon development is a significant phase in the context of the development of the University of Leeds itself but also reflects a point in history where national views on higher education allowed this massive development to be conceived. It is a key example of post-war modernism in Britain and is a principal work of CPB. The guidelines are intended to provide a tool for the long term management of the heritage asset.
