Torbay Hospital

Following selection through a design competition, Avanti Architects have developed a
strategy for Torbay Hospital to enable it to deliver the highest standards of
care, and to respond to the challenges of an aging population. To achieve this
it is necessary to overcome the difficulties created by a tightly constrained
and steeply sloping site. Our proposals have two elements: the development of a
masterplan for the entire hospital site, that will over time address all
functional shortcomings while making the hospital an attractive and easy to use
facility, and the design of the initial phases of this process, comprising a
new main entrance, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, and inpatient
wards.
