Southall Sports Centre
MiddlesexThis sports facility, funded by a Sports Lottery Grant, includes a four court sports hall, a fitness room, a crèche and a health therapy unit, and now provides a strong social and fitness focus for its local community.
The bulk of the main sports hall spaces are set back from the road behind smaller scale accommodation. This reduction in scale, combined with landscaping between the building and the street, softens the appearance of the building when seen from the housing on the opposite side of Beaconsfield Road.
The building has been designed to be energy efficient through the use of high levels of insulation, energy efficient lighting and the provision of a heat recovery system attached to the mechanical ventilation plant.
Following consultations with Sport England and the London Borough of Ealing Leisure Services Department, it was agreed that the new facility should be a centre of excellence for table tennis.
