Roxwell Road is a scheme for Be First, Barking and Dagenham’s housing company, providing 83 homes in a mixed-tenure development including a range of apartment buildings and a terrace of family houses. The project is a fantastic opportunity to revitalise the adjacent park with a new residential active frontage and improved permeability.
The blocks fronting the park are designed to activate the park with all apartments enjoying views and aspect onto the green space. A green spine is then driven through the scheme to influence of the park into nearby streets thereby creating a new green lung through the development. The design of the public realm, with a central home zone, promotes use of shared spaces and permeability through the site that currently provides no direct access onto the park.
The scheme adopts a simple palette of materials and details, with generous balconies overlooking the park and a range of public and private space generated by the variety of building typologies. The project adopts exceptionally high standards of thermal fabric performance and energy efficiency through passive measures and low/zero carbon technologies such as air source heat pumps.
