IPq2 – Institute of Psychiatry at Hospital Clinicas

IPq2 is a new £20m building to extend the teaching, research laboratories, outpatient and inpatient facilities of the existing Institute of Psychiatry at Hospital Clinicas, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sao Paulo – FMUSP, one of the largest hospital campuses in Brazil. The client’s brief was for a high quality design that would have its own identity, as well as provide a relationship and connection with the existing hospital.

A range of specialist departments are arranged over 8 floors for psychiatric teaching, learning and research, outpatients, adolescent inpatients. A 100 seat teaching auditorium, café and social facilities are located on the ground and first floors. A solarium for staff and patients is located on the roof. The existing Institute and the proposed new facility are linked via glazed routes from the ground to the 5th floor.
