Cossham Memorial Hospital – a 100 year old Grade II listed building in Queen Anne style at the heart of its community – has been  regenerated and extended by Avanti as a community hospital including ambulatory care, minor injuries unit and imaging, physiotherapy and a midwife-led birthing unit.

Avanti’s design focusses on creating on a patient-orientated reassuring and high quality environment. The midwife-led birthing unit is an exemplar facility which is at the forefront of current best practice providing a high-quality home-from-home environment.

The building has received wide acclaim from staff and public as well as support from English Heritage. The project achieved a BREEAM Health ‘Very Good’ rating. Avanti provided a full conservation plan and architectural services.

Transformation of a listed building into a hub for community health


I had my first baby at Cossham Hospital and I would advise it to any mother who wants to have a natural birth! The rooms are lovely and the midwives are amazing. I truly believe I would not have had this experience anywhere else!
