Coptic Street

London

This development of 23 flats and maisonettes for One Housing Group is in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area in close proximity to the British Museum. The design strategy involved working with the grain of the Conservation Area in terms of scale and streetscape, while composing a building vocabulary that is unassertive yet clearly of its own time.
The fall between street level and centre of the block is exploited to give stacked maisonettes. The corner of the site is adopted as a lift and stair core for flats on the upper floors and articulated as a ‘tower’. Every unit is provided with an outdoor amenity space whether a garden, balcony or roof terrace.
