Chongqing Museum and Creative Industry Park

China

The regeneration of a former steelworks with a new industrial museum acting as the centre piece of the district. This project brings together conservation, sustainable masterplanning and design of new innovative buildings into one holistic scheme with 22 hectares of development including 120,000m2  of cultural and creative industry uses and 380,000m2 of retail, office, residential and public building space.

A high quality landscape complements the mix of existing and new buildings. Complementary uses to the museum include artists workshops, bars, restaurants and retail space. Existing sheds of the former milling plant are rejuvenated and are placed in contrast to a new entrance building referred to as the ‘steel bar’.
