Bristol Science and Academic Quarter

Bristol

For a period of 15 years, Avanti Architects has fulfilled a number of roles in the redevelopment of the Bristol Southmead campus. Our work includes the masterplanning of 26 acres and 200,000m2 of accommodation for the new Brunel Hospital and create a new Science and Academic Quarter. The new quarter serves as a hub for laboratories, research and learning, effectively integrating services that were previously dispersed across various locations on-site and throughout the region. This integration involved collaboration among multiple NHS Trusts, three prominent higher education institutions (the Universities of Bristol, Bath, and the West of England), and the UK Health Security Agency.

Avanti undertook extensive consultation with a wide array of stakeholders to ensure an effective phasing and decant strategy. Central to the campus masterplan was also making radical inroads into energy management and improvements to public realm.   In addition to masterplanning, Avanti also designed and delivered a number of buildings including the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rated Learning and Research Building and the Pathology Phase 1 & 2 buildings.
