Wells Coates talk at Isokon Gallery

24 October 2019

On 26th October, Elizabeth Darling will be providing a broad overview of the celebrated Isokon architect Wells Coates, his background and many important achievements besides Lawn Road Flats.

Elizabeth Darling is based at Oxford Brookes University and works on 20th century British architectural history with a particular interest in inter-war modernism, social housing, and gender. Her most recent publication is ‘Wells Coates’ (RIBA Publishing, 2012).

The Isokon Gallery, set up in partnership with Avanti Architects, is a permanent exhibition telling the remarkable story of the Isokon building, the pioneering modern apartment block opened in 1934 as an experiment in new ways of urban living.
