Avanti Architects has been given planning permission for a £40 million extension to the Children’s Hospital in Sheffield.
The new building provides the hospital’s main entrance, with a light-filled atrium featuring a colourful tube suspended from the ceiling that highlights the reception desk.
The building also features outpatients consulting suites, specialist treatment areas and three wards with single rooms and en-suites.
The design uses brickwork to tie in with the Edwardian red brick of the original hospital building.
Avanti Architect won the competition to design the hospital in April 2012.
