John Allan at Taliesin Colloquium, Arizona

11 February 2017

John Allan, former Director of Avanti Architects, will be giving a talk on Late Modernism and will also join a panel discussion at the prestigious Taliesin Colloquium organised by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) at Taliesin West taking place between Friday 10 – Sunday 12 February. The Colloquium’s subject is ‘A new paradigm for architecture: The convergence of preservation, environment, and design’. It is suggested that current practice has blurred the lines among new design, resource conservation, and heritage conservation in the design and use of buildings throughout their life. The Colloquium will be looking at our role as design professionals in shaping the use and reuse of existing buildings at their impact in an urban and community context. Taliesin West, located in the Arizona desert, was architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and school from 1937 to 1959. Today it is the main campus of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and houses the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. The complex, which Wright continually altered and added to during his lifetime, was constructed by students using local desert rock. The structure was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1982.
