Finsbury Health Centre Restoration Begins

We are very excited to be starting the next phase of work to secure the future of the Grade I listed Finsbury Health Centre for NHS Property Services.
Avanti Architects began the repair and conservation of the Finsbury Health Centre over 25 years ago. Designed by Berthold Lubetkin & Tecton and completed in 1938 and probably the greatest building of the modern movement in inter-war England.

Former Avanti director John Allan said in the Building Design series ’50 Wonders’:

”It was to be a new building-type encapsulating all modernism’s progressive ideals – social, technical, aesthetic – with a political and architectural conviction unequalled by any other work of its era, anticipating the foundation of the NHS by a clear decade.”

The project involves careful sourcing of materials including Thermolux glass from Switzerland, tiling, window and glass block systems.
