Bandon Primary Care Centre is a 360-degree health facility home to GP practices, public health nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dieticians, speech and language therapists, podiatrists, psychologists, dentists, ophthalmologists, and mental health specialists. The ground floor will provide a new public library and retail accommodation, including a pharmacy.
Ronan Conneely at Avanti explains, “The design responds to the wider community by creating a new civic hub and catalyst for future urban regeneration. The site strategy creates a high quality ‘arrival square’ around which the new centre is wrapped. The ‘arrival square’ is formed at the junction of St Patricks Place, Market Street and the processional axis from St Patricks Church. This arrangement creates space for orientation and gives a clear sense of arrival into Bandon town from West Cork. The ground floor library is designed to form an extension of the ‘arrival square’ with the intention that library activity will spill out into the public realm.”
