Avanti gets go ahead to deliver homes for Londoners

12 August 2020

Avanti Architects has received planning consent via remote planning committee for two housing schemes for Be First, the housing company for Barking and Dagenham.  The two projects aim to deliver increased density in suburban neighbourhoods and to set quality benchmarks for future development.  The project at Roxwell Road delivers 87 homes across a masterplan which aims to bring back traditional streets and high quality public realm.  The mix includes a high number of large family units in the form of maisonettes and terraced houses. The scheme opens new routes across the existing neighbourhood and ensures a large number of homes have views over an existing local park.

The project at Oxlow Lane delivers 63 new homes within a single block.  The building is set back from the street to avoid the loss of mature trees and underground services. The facade has a formal, ordered character along streets with recessed balconies and facets to breakdown and modulate scale.  Within the interior of the site, the building has a more playful character with projecting balconies creating a more intimate relationship with the communal green space.
