Avanti contribute to RIBA Bauhaus exhibition

27 November 2019

Avanti Architects have been contributing to events supporting the “Beyond Bauhaus” exhibition at the Royal Association of British Architects (RIBA).

This major exhibition marks the Centenary of the Bauhaus School and explores the impact of its founder and leading artists including Walter Gropius, Marcel Breuer and László Moholy-Nagy.

Conservation Director Fiona Lamb and founding member & former Director, John Allan have been part of an exciting line-up of modernist experts & historians, telling stories behind the exhibition at supporting events over the last few months. Speakers have included RIBA curators Valeria Carullo and Pete Collard, authors Magnus Englund and Leyla Daybelge, British architectural historian Elizabeth Darling and Hampstead spy ring expert Stewart Purvis.

Many of these events have been held at the Isokon Gallery and Grade I listed Isokon building, former home to Gropius, Breuer and Moholy-Nagy which was completed in 1934 and designed by Wells Coates.  The Isokon Gallery forms part of the Crown Conservation Award winning restoration of the Isokon building.  The project was led by John & Fiona and was set up as a charitable enterprise along with resident Magnus England to tell the story of the buildings history.

“Beyond Bauhaus” at the RIBA will be running until 1 February 2020
