A look ahead to 2018

12 January 2018

We are looking ahead to an exciting year for Avanti with a range of landmark projects moving forward on site and on the drawing board.

Following the success of Avanti’s award-winning Inpatient Ward Block at Ulster Hospital, completed in April 2017, the new £95m Acute Services Block is now under construction and due for completion in July 2019. Also in healthcare, Sheffield Children’s Hospital is nearing completion and set for handover in early 2018. The children’s bedrooms have already won awards and have been widely acclaimed for their uplifting design with striking colour and geometric patterns, a result of a close collaboration between Avanti, Artfelt, artist Morag Myerscough, patients and staff.

Our ground-breaking mixed use project for the London Borough of Hackney at Nile Street with developer Londonewcastle has been launched as The Makers Shoreditch (themakersshoreditch.com).  The design co-locates 175 private residential units, a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ school, community sports facilities, commercial/gallery space and new public realm. The substantial new public space in Jasper Walk will make an outstanding contribution to the neighbourhood. Construction of the street block and podium structural frame is well advanced and the core of the 29 storey residential tower is up to level 14. Completion is due in the final quarter of 2019.

We also have major heritage regeneration projects on site in central London including the redevelopment of the Grade II and II* listed Ram Brewery in Wandsworth. This is the oldest brewery in the UK, dating from between 1720 and 1880, and involves meticulous repair work to timbers and masonry to integrate residential, retail and restaurant units and a museum to celebrate the history of the site. In 2017, Avanti Architects were also appointed to restore and adapt two 19th Century Grade II Listed buildings within the former St Clements NHS Hospital complex in Mile End for residential and community use. Avanti are working closely with LB of Tower Hamlets and Historic England as the project is underway on site with completion due in the third quarter of this year.

Our Ireland office is also going from strength to strength with the five Primary Care Centre projects underway across the country and our recent appointment to develop proposals for three social housing sites.

We look forward to a productive , creative and collaborative year working with our clients, fellow consultants, building users and stakeholders!
