The Brownfield Estate

London

The Brownfield Estate designed by the architect Ernö Goldfinger and completed in the early 1960s is regarded as a landmark housing development of its period, and has been designated a Conservation Area with its two principal buildings, Balfron Tower and Carradale House both listed Grade II. Avanti Architects were appointed to prepare a Conservation Management Plan to inform the development of design proposals and provide a framework of management guidance for the future.
The project is a prime example of the challenge of reconciling essential change and upgrade work with conservation of the key attributes of character and significance protected by designation.
