The award-winning Banbridge Health and Care Centre is an exemplar for local community health provision. The building provides accommodation for community outpatient treatment, activity and therapy spaces for adult daycare and is an administrative centre for Trust healthcare. This project brings these functions together onto one site in an innovative way, delivering efficiencies by sharing accommodation between services and reducing travel distances.
The design solution has sought to maximise natural light in internal areas, provide views out to landscaping and from circulation. The preferred design solution uses the atrium and stepped courtyard as a heart to the building and establishes visual connections to the landscape beyond. Circulation spaces benefit from frequent breakout and seating areas with views to the courtyard.
Planting and sculpture provide stimulus as well as reference points to help orientate users when circulating around the building. The integrated art strategy plays an important role in lifting the quality of the internal and external spaces, increase legibility, wayfinding and create a welcoming and therapeutic environment.
A lawn roof above daycare accommodation allows the building to merge with the landscape and provides an attractive outlook for those working at upper levels. It also contributes to a site wide upgrade to the ecological profile of the development.

Community Treatment and Care Centre within the Banbridge Health Village
“I welcome the progress in this latest health development which brings together a wide range of primary care, community and acute diagnostic services at a single location closer to the local communities. These new sites are replacing old buildings with state of the art facilities which will greatly benefit the local people who will use them.”
Health Minister, Simon Hamilton
“We are delighted to have reached another important milestone with the Banbridge centre. Staff and clients are very excited about moving to this more modern, spacious and very impressive accommodation.
As well as complementing existing services already provided on the Banbridge Health Village development, this new centre will bring together a range of services in a more accessible ‘one-stop’ environment supporting us to continue to transform care.”
Paula Clarke, Southern Trust Chief Executive
“A calm uplifting civic building deftly interwoven into its site, a tangible affirmation of the value of the public domain”
