Geraldine trained at University College Dublin, and went on to become a founding director of Avanti Architects in 1981.
Over the years she has built up extensive experience in all aspects of Avanti’s work including the design of health buildings and strategic planning for primary and secondary health care developments, general and special needs housing, private houses, feasibility and planning exercises to assess the development potential of a wide variety of buildings and sites, transport, education and community based projects. Housing experience encompasses new build as well as a large number of conversion and restoration schemes of listed buildings and buildings in conservation areas.
Geraldine takes particular interest in understanding how buildings relate to their context and how cities can work better. She believes strongly in making public places responsive to the human scale and creating buildings that people want to live and work in. This interest in the individual is also reflected in her collaborative approach within the practice.
Geraldine is the director in charge of Avanti’s Irish office in Cork and the delivery of the new acute hospital in Belfast, currently under construction.
